No one has achieved in the world of fly fishing what Andy Mill has. He\u2019s won more Tarpon tournaments than any angler in history. He\u2019s only the second angler to win five Gold Cup tournaments. (The Gold Cup Tarpon Tournament is essentially, the Super Bowl of fly fishing.) And he holds title to the triple crown of tarpon fishing \u2014 winning The Gold Cup, The Don Hawley Invitational, and The Golden Fly, all in the same year. What\u2019s more, Mill is the only angler to have won a tarpon, bonefish and permit tournament on fly. In conjunction with his award winning book, A Passion for Tarpon, he has found himself as one of our sports\u2019 leading authorities. Andy has served on the Board of the National Atlantic Salmon Fishing Federation, and is also an honorary Trustee of the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust<\/p>\n

Prior to his remarkable career as a tournament angler, Mill was an elite alpine downhill ski racer (ranked number one in the U.S. from 1974-1981) and competed in the 1976 Olympics \u2014 where he placed 6th skiing on a severely injured ankle. For his heroics, Andy was awarded the Olympic Skiing Award.\u00a0Few figures in fly fishing loom larger than Andy Mill. Don\u2019t miss this opportunity to learn from the Legend.<\/p>\n

Learn to cast. Learn to tie a fly. Learn about the local fishery. View some amazing fly fishing films. But mostly, have one helluva good time!
\nWhether you\u2019ve never fly fished a day in your life, or you\u2019re a seasoned veteran, Legends of the Fly 2017 is an event you\u2019ll not want to miss. This is your chance to learn \u2014 or improve \u2014 the essential skills of fly fishing. Its a wonderful opportunity to not only learn about our local waters, but a chance to meet other people interested in this incredible sport as well.<\/p>\n

The day will start at 12pm with casting clinics led by local legend Cory Routh and other expert casters. Fly tying instruction \u2014 courtesy of the talented folks at Virginia Coastal Fly Anglers \u2014 also begins at this time.<\/p>\n

1 \u2013 2:30pm View presentations by Elizabeth River Project, Lynnhaven River Now and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation about their efforts on behalf of our local waters. These informative sessions will give every angler a better understanding of the state of our fishery, and what they can do to help protect it. Fly tying and casting instruction continues. 2:30 \u2013 3pm What\u2019s new in fly fishing gear \u2014 A presentation of the latest and greatest in fly fishing equipment.<\/p>\n

3 \u2013 4:30pm Fly fishing legend Andy Mill shares stories about his incredible career as a competitive fly fisherman, professional ski racer and TV personality. Andy will conclude with a demonstration of fish fighting skills developed over countless hours of wrestling big fish. Andy\u2019s presentations are widely considered the best in the industry, so don\u2019t miss this entertaining 90 minutes.<\/p>\n
